On 11 September 1714 the Authorities of the Barcelona asediada by the legitimate tropas del Rey Felipe V tenian su clear idea of \u200b\u200bSpain such as it expresaron conciudadanos and to its defenders in his latest band:
"... the misery of this unfortunate city, who resides-day freedom from all across Spain and the Principality it ...
... so gloriously shed his blood and life for his king, his honor for the country and for freedom throughout Spain ,..."
that occasion was not so magnified in recent times how quiet these paragraphs, the only one in which the Catalans fought strongly in favor of Spain that Catalonia is a natural and inherent. Before and after the Catalans have known that, if necessary, should take up arms and follow the flag of Spain, for example (among many others who could refer) those who enlisted to form an expeditionary unit to Cuba where he unleashed war. They were popularly known as the Catalan Thirds integrated into the English Army, participate in the then called Great War, from 1868 to 1878, to defend Englishness Cuba and, consequently, the territorial integrity of Spain.

Being a volunteer unit were provided with certain peculiarities in his uniform, as the typical red beret, a true symbol of Catalan identity. Like all battalions of the Army, his flag was the national colors of Spain, at the center were the weapons of the Principality and in the corners of the four provinces of Catalonia: Barcelona, \u200b\u200bTarragona, Lleida and Girona, which until now has been preserved near of descendants of those brave, recently closed the Military Museum at Montjuic. So many Catalans as the strength of a battalion officially called Hunters Barcelona Catalonian Volunteers, but returned only 40. That's a sacrifice for Spain.
That chapter of history was now so significant that it was said that those Catalans went to Cuba "vetllant per l'honor d'Espanya" and deserved the commemorative painting "Shipping Catalan volunteers in the port of Barcelona" the Catalan Ramon father painted in 1870, with the bottom Montjuich, belonging to the Maritime Museum and the shipyards of Barcelona. And his presence in Cuba did not go unnoticed because there were references to them on cigarette packs of cigars made there. The same Padró illustrated an article in the press of the time, saying
